Gloria Hendry
was born in Florida and raised in Newark, New Jersey. Her first job
was as an assistant to the legal secretary in the New York officie
of the NAACP. She also became a model around this time and worked at
the Playboy Club as a "Bunny." This
exposure led to her being cast in her first movie, For the Love
of Ivy (1968).
In the 1970s she became a popular star of black actioners such as Black
Caesar (1973) and Black Belt Jones (1974).
Between these two assignments, she was cast by Guy Hamilton as Rosie
Carver in Live And Let Die, and became the first African American Bond
girl. Alas, she was killed for betraying 007 (Roger Moore) to Dr Kanaga
(Yaphet Kotto).
Gloria continued to work extensively in both tv and film post-Bond. TV
credits includ Hunter, The Brady Brides and her film work encompasses
Bare Knuckles (1978), Pumpkinhead II (1994) and Looking
Italian (1998)
She has completed her first CD and also produced The Paul Robeson
Story.
Undoubtedly, she remains most fondly remembered as Rosie Carver in Live
And Let Die however; a role she is both proud and fond of
