Alec started his career in the mid 1950s as a camera assistant, moving through the ranks to clapper loader, focus puller and - on the TV series The Saint - became camera operator.
Alec operated on scores of films including The Valley of Gwangi, The McKenzie Break, The Hunting Party, Gold, Shout At The Devil, Seven Nights In Japan, Death On The Nile, Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi and also on 6 James Bond films: OHMSS, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy and A View To A Kill.
In 1987 Alec was offered the chance to become Director Of Photography on The Living Daylights, and also held the same position on his last Bond film Licence To Kill two years later.
Alec made two more films with his Bond director John Glen, Christopher Columbus The Discovery and The Point Men in the 1990s.
He also directed two movies in Australia: Bloodmoon and Dead Sleep.
Now retired, Alec is putting the finishing touches to his memoirs.
